Instructions for Configuring Outlook Express to Send Mail From Outside the Vircom Network on the Vircom Mail Server

(or...how to avoid the dreaded RELAYING DENIED error....)

Steps:

1.    Open Outlook Express

2.    Click on TOOLS:

3.   Click on ACCOUNTS:

4.   Click on MAIL tab, then click on PROPERTIES:

5.   Click on SERVERS tab:

6.   Check MY SERVER REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION, then click SETTINGS button:

7.   Make sure USE SAME SETTINGS AS MY INCOMING MAIL SERVER is selected, then click OK:

8.   Then click OK again:

9.   Then click CLOSE to close the mail accounts configuration menu:

10.   Changes to Outlook Express are now complete.  Use of Password Authentication will allow you to send mail using Vircom.Net servers from anywhere without the need for relaying to be enabled for that particular location.|
This is particularly useful when using external networks such as Excite@home which use dynamic addressing.
